The Department of Health & Social Care - Consultation

The Department of Health & Social Care have an open consultation regarding healthcare regulation: deciding when statutory regulation is appropriate.
They are seeking additional legislative powers to ensure that the regulation of health and social care professionals is proportionate and best protects the public from harm.
The consultation considers the powers to introduce and remove professions from regulation. Their current stance is that the regulatory landscape is the correct mix of regulated and unregulated professions and should not change (except for the introduction of statutory regulation for physician associates and anaesthesia associates). However, they are seeking views on:
1. whether, when considering the criteria for regulation, any regulated professions no longer meet the test for regulation and should no longer be regulated
2. whether any unregulated professions meet the criteria for regulation and should be statutorily regulated
The consultation closes at 11:45 on 31st March 2022, and the ARTP would encourage members to actively participate in this consultation to further support our ambition in achieving regulation for our professions. Further information and how to respond to the consultation can be found below:
