UWE Bristol - Support for PGCert Sleep Medicine placements

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to ask if you might be able to support our PGCert Sleep Medicine students at UWE Bristol with short placements to aid completion of their workplace portfolios. The PGCert Sleep Medicine is a fast-track programme, commissioned and fully funded by NHS England, aimed directly at individuals currently working in NHS healthcare roles who are looking to upskill into sleep to help address the skills gaps evident within the NHS. We know that service pressures and staffing are an ongoing issue for many services, and you may not feel you can accommodate a placement student at this time. However, our students don’t need to work in a service for long periods, they just need short but meaningful learning experiences and clinical exposure (e.g. shadowing, sitting in on clinics, professional discussions – either in person or online), though hands-on experience is always appreciated. And these students will soon be highly trained sleep professionals who can help to address the workforce gaps in your services going forward.

We currently have 32 students on course who are actively completing their portfolio at present, and will be confirming our October 2025 intake (maximum 50 students) very soon, and so it would be good to share up-to-date placement information with them.
