ARTP AHCS Equivalence Bursaries 2025

ARTP AHCS Equivalence Bursaries 2025

01 April 2025

ARTP Bursaries

The ARTP Strategy 2024-2028, launched early 2025, highlights the importance of ensuring quality in respiratory and sleep services. As part of our commitment to improving quality, ARTP has committed to supporting members to become registered as an Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) Clinical Physiologist or a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Clinical Scientist through the AHCS equivalence process.

ARTP are offering to cover the entire cost of the AHCS Scientist Training Programme (STP) or the AHCS Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) equivalence process (excluding final registration with HCPC/AHCS), for 20 ARTP members, 10 for STP and 10 for PTP equivalence. The Good Scientific Practice (GSP) document sets out the professional standards on which safe, effective and good working practice is founded for all healthcare scientists and this framework underpins the equivalence process. All applicants should review this document which can be found at GSP 2024 and ensure that they can provide evidence that fulfils the requirements of all five domains.

The bursary application window will open on Monday 14th April 2025 at 9am and will close on Friday 25th April 2025 at 5pm. Similar schemes launched by the AHCS have seen unprecedented demand and therefore the application window will close once 100 applications have been received. Applicants must consider, in advance of applying, the likelihood of completing the equivalence submission process within six months of bursary approval (likely to be end of May 25). Future similar initiatives will depend on the success of this initial cohort. Current members of the ARTP Executive Board and Council are exempt from applying.

How to Apply

Applications are made using our online form (which is now closed) and must be accompanied by a short CV. Your CV should include details of:
Your career to date
Your current roles and responsibilities
Your education and training
Evidence of delivering against the five domains of good scientific practice (GSP)
Any publications or reports that you have contributed to. This might be empirical research, audits/service developments or conference presentations

Selection

Selection will be based on:
The applicant providing evidence of working at a level appropriate to the requested equivalence level for at least 3 years
Representation from across the United Kingdom
The likelihood, based on the details included in the applicant’s CV, of having sufficient experience/evidence to submit a portfolio within 6 months

We recognise that applicants will have a variety of relevant qualifications and experience. You do not need to possess a Masters or Bachelors level qualification to be considered for STP or PTP equivalence respectively. However, the evidence you present must demonstrate that you have a comparable level of knowledge, clinical skills and competence to a trainee successfully completing the STP or PTP programmes. Further guidance with regards to the equivalence process can be found on the AHCS website at www.ahcs.ac.uk.
