NHS England National Cardiac Science and Respiratory & Sleep Data Collection

NHS England National Cardiac Science and Respiratory & Sleep Data Collection

22 October 2024

Please see email below from the National Diagnostics Transformation Programme in regards to their National Physiological Science Data Collections.

The National Cardiac Science and Respiratory & Sleep data collections were due to close on they 11th October, however we are going to keep the online portal open for an additional two weeks and these will now close on Friday 25th October 2024.

We cannot extend this any further and after this date we’ll use the data collected to begin the data analysis process. We recognise that these collections come at a time of significant pressure for providers; however, the time invested in completing this will provide data that will improve our understanding of these service provisions and support local, regional and national efforts to transform these important services.

As part of the diagnostics service transformation, the data collected through these surveys will underpin local and national transformation programmes for physiological sciences.

If you haven’t already submitted, we would be grateful for your continued support with reporting your trusts data.

Accessing the Cardiac Science and Respiratory & Sleep data collections
These surveys can be accessed via the NHS England Data Collection Framework Portal (DCF) - https://apps.model.nhs.uk

You should have received one or more emails from datacollections@model.nhs.uk notifying you of your access to the data collections on DCF. If you have not received an email, please check your junk folder. If still not found, then contact the IPS Service Desk ips.servicedesk@england.nhs.uk

What to include in the collection
Guidance documentation to help you complete the survey is attached. Key points about the reporting period are summarised below:
- Activity and referrals data for the month of July 2024 should be submitted
- Waiting times data should relate to the number of patients that are waiting for a diagnostic test at the end of July 2024 (midnight on 31st July 2024)
- If your organisation is unable to provide data for July 2024 please submit the most recent data you have access to and provide details about this in the comments section
- Data for other sections should relate to the position at the time of submission

Each individual provider Trust should submit data relating to the whole Trust (to the relevant collection/s), including all sites that provide Cardiac Sciences and/or Respiratory/sleep services within the Trust. Data cannot be submitted separately for each site within a Trust, this should be an aggregated Trust wide data submission.

Activity from services that are affiliated to a secondary or tertiary healthcare provider should be included.

Data from Community Diagnostics Centres (CDCs) should be included within the submission:
- In the service section of the collection, list all CDCs your Trust is operationally responsible for as separate sites (question 2.02)
- Include CDC activity and waiting times where your Trust is clinically responsible
- Include CDCs that your Trust has operational responsibility for within the workforce and estates sections

Activity delivered by primary care providers should not be included.

We appreciate service provision may vary within systems and if there is any doubt on how a return should be completed, please contact the national programme team for advice.
