PQ Assessment Calculations/MCQ - Guide, Mock Exam & Booking

10 January 2024

Remember to book your assessment before the deadline date given to you upon enrolment. You can sit this exam anytime in your completion timeframe.

Calculation & MCQ assessment exams are available to undertake on 1 set day per month - usually the 3rd Thursday of each month. You must have an invigilator present, therefore please ensure your invigilator is available first, before booking your exam date. Once booked, you can take your exam(s) anytime between 9am and 5pm on the day you have selected. You will need to ask your nominated Invigilator to complete a form before your exam is taken.

If you are undertaking an MCQ & Calculations exam on the same day (Practioner level) you can complete them both anytime between 9am and 5pm. If you have a different invigilator for each exam, both invigilators must complete an invigilator form. If you have the same invigilator for both exams, they will just need to complete the one form.

How many questions do I need to answer correctly to pass?

70% of the questions must be answered correctly in order to pass both the Calculations and MCQ examinations.

How do I navigate through the examination?

You can use the arrows to navigate back and forth throughout the exam - this is particularly helpful if you have time remaining and want to review your answers. Once you are happy you have answered all the questions, go to the final question and click SUBMIT before the timer ends.

The quiz system will suspend your examination or create a 10 second pop up if:

  • you have any other programmes or browser windows open
  • your cursor goes near the top or edges of the page - if this happens simply click 'Cancel' and move your cursor away from the edge of the screen.

When will I get my link to access the assessment?

You will be emailed a link and password to access your exam approx 1-2 days before your chosen date. You can only take your exam between 9am and 5pm on the day you have selected - any attempts made outside of this date/time will be marked as a fail.

When will I receive my results?

You will receive your MCQ results straight after the exam ends, with the percentage that you scored. Calculations results must be ratified in the first instance, so you will not receive these results immediately. These will be emailed 8 days after, which is the following Friday.

What if I fail?

If you fail your examination on the 1st try, you are permitted a further attempt, which is not chargeable. This can be rebooked below. Unfortunately, we are unable to give candidates the specifics on which questions that you did not pass. At this stage all we can advise is the score. Please note that the exams only take once per month.

Candidates are permitted a maximum of four attempts for the MCQ and Calculations exams. You will be provided with a different paper for each attempt. If a pass is not achieved by the fourth attempt, you will unfortunately be unable to continue with the ARTP Professional Qualification.

You will be required to undertake further training with your Work Based Assessor before your third and fourth attempt. Supporting evidence of this additional training must be submitted as part of your resit application. Please note that both the third and fourth attempts are chargeable at £50.

Please contact us to make your payment and advise development@artp.org.uk once paid.

Issues and Common Reasons for failing the MCQ exam

  • You can't access the link to the exam - This is often because your firewall is blocking access to the page as untrusted. Speak to your IT department before your exam date to ensure you have access to www.proprofs.com
  • The system thinks you're trying to navigate away from the page, so will generate a 10 second timer - Try and keep your cursor away from the edges of the screen to avoid the 10 second timer popping up. If the error appears, simply click the Cancel button to continue.
  • Questions that require multiple answers are missed - If you are asked to select all that apply, you will need to get all the answers correct in order to pass
  • Not taking full advantage of all the time given - If you have completed all of the questions and have time remaining, you can use that time to review your answers by using the arrows to navigate back and check your answers. Once you are happy with your answers, go to the final question and submit before the timer ends.
