Joe Madge

Position: Paediatrics Vice

Who am I?

I am a Paediatric Respiratory Physiologist and Head of the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology Service at Leicester Children’s Hospital.

I started my career as a trainee Physiologist at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester; working with both adults and children. I quickly realised, I found working with children much more rewarding. I moved to a full time position with the paediatric service in 2019, at this time the paediatric team consisted of two physiologists. Since then we have managed to expand the team and service, to offer a more comprehensive respiratory and sleep physiology service for the children we see.

A bit about me

I am a husband and father to two girls; Delilah (5) and Lydia (3). Most weekends we spend time together as a family, doing something outdoors, usually a trip to some sort of park.

In my spare time; I enjoy running (when I’m not injured). I will happily go off running for hours. Last year, I decided to run to Nottingham one day (around 30 miles) and get the train home, just for fun!

What would you like to achieve in your role?

As vice chair for paediatrics, I am keen to promote paediatric specific teaching modules (across respiratory and sleep), build on the success of the first paediatric CPET forum from last year and support Phil as chair of the paediatric committee.
