William Man

Position: ARTP President

Who am I?

I am a Consultant Chest Physician and Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, part of Guy’s & St.Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. I run general respiratory, COPD and sleep clinics, and oversee pulmonary rehabilitation and home oxygen services. I also lead a multidisciplinary team that is focused on health services research in people with chronic respiratory disease.

A bit about me

My first experience of working in respiratory was as a research fellow for John Moxham at King’s College Hospital where I spent a lot of time punishing colleagues and patients with invasive balloon pressure measurements and where I first met many ARTP alumni. One of my first published papers involved eating as much pizza as you can (look it up!). Outside of the primary job, I work as a chauffeur to two teenage daughters. I know surprising amounts about K-pop, teen street fashion and Korean skincare trends.

What would you like to achieve in your role?

Just to be as supportive as I can to the ARTP Council, Executive Board and membership, and to keep respiratory physiology high on the agenda. The ARTP is an incredible society with such an enthusiastic membership. I am really confident that the ARTP will continue to expand both in numbers and influence at home and abroad.
