Regional Events to support the

Consultation on Services for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in England and plans for implementation

The National Strategy for COPD is now launched for consultation. You can pick up a hard copy of the document at one of the regional events, or download a copy by visiting the Department of Health website at the following link:

The Department of Health, in partnership with the 10 SHAs in England and NHS Improvement (supported by the British Thoracic Society, Primary Care Respiratory Society, British Lung Foundation and Asthma UK) are holding a series of regional events.

The aim of the events is to enable all interested healthcare professionals to hear from the National Clinical Directors for Respiratory Disease, Professor Sue Hill (Department of Health Chief Scientific Officer) and Dr Robert Winter (East of England SHA Medical Director), about the contents of the strategy. Delegates will feedback their views on the recommendations it contains, and have an opportunity to record their response to the consultation at the event.

There will also be the opportunity to talk about the:

  • work being undertaken to help support delivery of the strategy by the Director of the NHS Lung Improvement programme (Phil Duncan).
  • chapter on asthma which highlights where there are synergies in the approach to the care of these conditions and where there are differences

Each event will have a distinct regional flavour, with practitioners speaking about local programmes, together with an opportunity to discuss arrangements to implement the final strategy in your area.

Who should attend?

  • Consultants in relevant specialties
  • Nurses
  • Physiotherapists
